Who Will Win the World Cup 2026? Our Data-Driven Prediction
The World Cup 2026 trophy will be lifted in New Jersey this summer. Before a ball is kicked, the bookmakers have already drawn their map of favourites — and the smart money is starting to move. We ran the numbers, weighed the form, and looked at where the value really sits.
The favourites, by the numbers
Three teams sit clear at the top of the pre-tournament market: France, Brazil, and England. Each comes in with a credible case, but the prices the bookmakers are quoting don't all reflect the same level of risk.
France remain the bookmakers' pick. They have a settled spine, tournament pedigree from the last two finals, and one of the deepest squads in the competition. Their main concern is the same as always — keeping the dressing room aligned over a six-week campaign.
Brazil come in with a new generation and a coach who has finally found a stable system. Their goal-creation numbers in qualifying topped the South American group by a clear margin.
England's draw looks generous through the round of 16, and recent form against top opposition has improved. The question is whether they can convert a comfortable group stage into a deep knockout run — historically their weakness.
The dark horses worth watching
This is where the value sits. Three teams the market is underpricing:
Argentina — defending champions, still anchored by world-class talent, and priced longer than their pedigree deserves because of squad-age concerns.
Portugal — a generational squad transition has gone smoother than expected, and their attack has been one of the most efficient in European qualifying.
Morocco — semi-finalists last time out, now playing with belief and tactical maturity. The price has shortened but still offers value relative to the talent on the pitch.
What our model says
Looking at expected goals, recent form against top-20 opposition, and squad strength, our model gives France a 17% win probability, Brazil 15%, and England 11%. The market roughly agrees on the order — but it's underpricing Argentina (model: 10%, market implied: 7%) and Morocco (model: 4%, market implied: 2%).
Where the value is
If you want the favourite, France is the safest pick but the price is short. The genuine value bets, based on our numbers, are Argentina to reach the final and Morocco to reach the semi-final — both priced for a team that shouldn't get that far, by a market that hasn't fully adjusted to their recent results.
